If you are an amateur or professional meteorologist that wants to look interactively and easily at the numerical weather prediction (NWP) data, geostationary Meteosat data, radiosondes and hyperspectral sounding data from AIRS, SAPO is the right tool for you. SAPO stands for Simple Amospheric Plotting Object and it pretends to be just that, a program to plot NWP fields and meteorological satellite data quickly and with no pain. At this time it is in a very early stage, and although it can already be used to view NWP fields, Meteosat images, AIRS retrievals and radiosonde data, it is not very user friendly yet and thus not recommended for general use. SAPO is still in the developing phase. If you want to become a SAPO developer, contact the web administrator at xcalbet AT yahoo DOT es SAPO runs using the powerful PDL language. PDL is and extension of the Perl language with powerful numerical computation and plotting capabilities. It also has a very powerful projection module which makes it ideal for SAPO. |
